Red has never look so beautiful
Chapter 1: A chance encounter
The sun dipped low over the London skyline, casting the city in a warm, golden hue. The McBusted boys were all set for a show in Soho. With their radiant energy combined, it was promised to be an unforgettable night. But first, they were killing some time in a newly opened grand hotel called Red Radiance where VIPs gather which is something they need after all the excitement and thrills throughout the tour while at the same time, something that is needed in preparation for their show the day before.
“It’s an honour to be among the first guests at Red Radiance. It may have only just been opened not that long ago yet I already heard that it has fantastic reviews with excellent service” said Tom Flecther with the McFly boys taking a step at Red Radiance. “Yeah, it has everything we could ask for including an all-you-can-eat buffet, disco floor, arcades and a swimming pool” said Charlie Simpson with the Busted boys following behind.
As they unpacked their stuff in their rooms, Danny Jones from McFly used this time to brush his hair and moisturise his skin. After all, every handsome man must maintain a daily routine of taking care of their appearance. “Oi, Danny! Are you done yet? The All You Can Eat Buffet will soon become All You Can’t Eat Buffet if you don’t hurry up!” Tom Fletcher called out from his hotel room with Danny forgetting to put on a Do Not Disturb Sign (unlike the hotel that he and Tom stayed in based on Room on the Third Floor). “I’m coming!” called Danny as he headed out of the bathroom. Little that he knows the tonight is the kind of night that he wouldn’t expect.
As soon as Danny arrived, he went over to the salad bar, only for his attention to be drawn at an unexpected sighting nearby. His eyes caught a tall, handsome man yet with a brooding aura who was none other than Hayden Christensen, the actor who brought the destined to become Darth Vader Anakin Skywalker to life in the Star Wars prequels.
Danny was star-struck with his heart skipping a beat. Lately, he has become a fan of Star Wars thanks to his bandmates Tom, Dougie Poynter and James Bourne getting him into them and seeing Hayden in the flesh was a surreal experience. He couldn’t help but to be drawn into him like a magnet. But he put that feeling to one side for a moment to let his bandmates know.
“Guys! You never guess who I saw!” said Danny as soon as he joined the others who were helping themselves with fried rice from the Chinese Buffet. “Chuck Norris?” asked Dougie making a wild guess. “Are you kidding? It’s Hayden Christensen, the guy who played as Anakin Skywalker!” said Danny. “No way! What he’s doing here out of all places?!” exclaimed James Bourne with his eyes wide open. Danny took another glance at Hayden sitting at his table who is seemingly lost in thought, all alone. Danny plucked up the courage and said “I’m gonna to say Hi”. “Now that’s brave of you. Good luck with that” said Matt encouragingly. “Try not to make a fool out of yourself” teased Harry.
Danny made his way towards Hayden’s table. As soon as he approached, Hayden looked up with their blue eyes meeting each other’s. “Hey, mate. I’m a big fan of your work. Mind if I join you?” asked Danny who tried to keep his voice casual even with the butterflies in his stomach. Hayden smiled and said “Why of course. You’re Danny Jones from McFly yes? Been a fan of your music too; McFly and McBusted as well as Busted and your solo works. Have a seat”, much to Danny’s surprise and flattery.
They find that they have all sorts to chat about including movies, music and fame which for Danny helped to melt any nervousness he had. It helped that Hayden turned out to be down-to-earth with mannerisms of a gentlemen which is a far cry from the brooding characters he tends to play as. Hayden himself also find that Danny was easy to get along with Danny lighting up his spirits with his good-natured humour while having the wisdom and sincerity. Both of them also happen to find their eyes meeting each other, more often than not. The more they talked, the more Danny felt that he had found a connection that was hard to explain. It was as if they were two kindred spirits who had finally found each other across the galaxy.
“So, what brings you here?” asked Danny who leaned forward slightly while subconsciously drawn into Hayden’s mysterious aura in his eyes. “I’ve heard that you guys will be having a show here. I’ve got into your music as of late so I couldn’t pass up this offer but also to take a nice, humble break after my latest work” said Hayden. “I like your way of thinking there. I know you’ll enjoy our show which will have a lot of energy” said Danny. “Thanks, I’m looking forward to that” said Hayden.
Chapter 2 – Start of connections
Danny has decided that it was about time to introduce Hayden to his bandmates.
“So Danny, you made a new friend?” asked Harry teasing him as soon as he arrived with Hayden.
“Guys, this is Hayden,” Danny introduced, still smiling. “Hayden, these are my bandmates—Tom, Dougie, Harry, and the Busted lads—James, Matt, and Charlie.” They were thrilled to meet him too. Hayden used this opportunity to get to know the others too.
He started with Tom, Dougie and James with them being fans of Science Fiction movies, especially Star Wars. They couldn’t resist asking all kinds of questions.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Star Wars! What’s it like being part of a beloved franchise?” Tom asked, clearly intrigued. Hayden chuckled and said “It sure has been a rollercoaster but hey, I’m a regular guy who is lucky to be the chosen one if you know what I mean” said Hayden. “Did you ever just mess around with the lightsabers between takes? Because I would’ve” said James unable to resist asking that. “Oh, definitely. Ewan and I would have these fun duels during breaks which did help to improve our skills actually. We were like such kids” answered Hayden smiling. “Why does Anakin hate sand?” asked Dougie causally. “I’m glad you asked that. The sand reminded Anakin of the difficult upbringing he had back in Tatooine as a slave” said Hayden. Dougie was astonished with the answer he came up with. Danny was intrigued too.
Hayden then talked to Charlie, Matt and Harry, talking about the challenges they had with fame. “It’s not always easy with our ups and downs that put our passion and bonds to the test, getting to where we want to be” said Charlie. “I can imagine so. Even I didn’t have it easy but to make a long story short, it took me a while to become vindicated by history with more fans appreciating me for my role as Anakin Skywalker” said Hayden sincerely. “But hey, not everything has to be hard with using being big kids at heart, having fun!” said Matt brightly. “Yeah, I bet I can beat you using the force!” said Harry. “I like to see you try” said Hayden, raising his hand as if he was using the force which somehow caused Harry to fall from his chair, much to the amusement of others.
Danny then composed himself and said “Going back on what Charlie has said, we have been through it together, it’s not always easy but it’s safe to say that we’re here forever” “I can tell that you have been through a lot which made you who you are today. You all are a good bunch” said Hayden gently, gazing at his eyes which made Danny smile so warmly.
The group continued to share stories and laughs but Danny and Hayden found that they were interacting with each other the most with complete eye contact throughout. Afterwards, Hayden made his leave, saying that he is looking forward to watching them perform. Danny said that he hoped to see him again as they exchanged numbers.
Danny felt a warmth in his chest during his time with Hayden. It was a feeling that was something more than just admiration or friendship.
The others enjoyed their meet-up with Hayden though it didn’t take long to figure that something is going on between him and Danny. “It looks like Danny has found a new best mate,” Harry commented, nudging Charlie. He raised his thick eyebrows and said “Maybe or something more.” “Really? Don’t tell me that Danny is...” said Dougie chipping in. “Who knows, stranger things have happened” said James, shrugging.
Chapter 3: A Night to remember
As the showman, Danny takes the lead who serenades the crowd with his solo Red performance and Everybody Knows Melody with a couple of cover songs, backed with energetic movements. Hayden who is among the crowd was having a great time throughout. He has listened to their music before but hearing them live has given him the extra energy and excitement. He admired each of the guys talent and style that he took notice of. But there was something about Danny that he couldn’t take his eyes off with the way he sings his passion with infectious energy as the showman, especially with him looking hot in his white vest and tight jeans.
After the show, Danny receives a message from Hayden to meet him at the pool alone. Danny couldn’t help but to blush with surprise and suspense. Although Danny admired Hayden a lot, he wasn’t sure to take the offer due to his nerves. “Go ahead; go where your heart decides” said Tom gently. “Yeah, don’t keep the Jedi waiting!” teased Matt, playfully prodding him in the elbow. Danny appreciated his bandmates giving him the encouragement he needed. He knows where his heart leads him.
As soon as Danny entered the pool, he spotted Hayden waiting for him. “I’ve been expecting you Danny” said Hayden smiling. Danny didn’t hesitate to walk into the pool and swim towards him. “It’s all nice and quiet here, all to ourselves” Hayden said softly as soon as Danny draws near to him. “That is true,” Danny agreed. Having the pool to themselves helps a lot.
“So, what did you think of our show?” asked Danny.”It was fantastic. All of you were totally in sync which shows how connected you all are as a supergroup with each and every one of you are talented in every way. But you in particular really gave it your all with your heart and passion and talent as the frontman, connecting all of us as the audience” said Hayden admiringly. “Thanks, it’s what I love doing best” said Danny smiling with that compliment.
Hayden then added “I notice that you were full of energy which also shows by that physic of yours.” “Why thanks, I’ve been working hard to build up all that energy to keep the vibes going and for me to grow. You yourself seem to be building yourself too” said Danny awkwardly as he was blushing but in a good way. “You have good eye; bulking myself is what I needed for my roles” replied Hayden.
Their gazes were locking once again with special kind of feelings that sparked in them. Danny’s heart was beating, pounding in his ears as he realized that the feelings he was experiencing wasn’t admiration, it was attraction. “Danny, I feel that we have connected to each other lately. I never thought that I would connect with anyone like this” said Hayden leaning closer. “Hayden, I...” Danny began, but his words wavered as he stared into Hayden intensely, finding that he was holding Hayden’s biceps. “You don’t have to say anything, Danny” said Hayden, holding Danny’s biceps too. Danny looked into Hayden’s eyes once again and found the same emotions as his which were deep as the pool. Their bodies may have got used to the temperature as the water but it was about to get warmer.
And then, as if pulled together by an invisible force, their lips met with a tender, loving kiss. It was more beautiful than the decor of Red Radiance or the song itself. Danny felt warm and safe, melting away any doubts or fears. After they are pulled apart, they find themselves breathless. “I didn’t think I see this coming” said Danny with a big smile. “Neither did I. But I’m glad it did” said Hayden with his smile matches Danny’s. Hayden then casually added “By the way, you look so hot and fit in that outfit. I couldn’t help but to get distracted by those arms”. Danny grinned and said “Well, have I ever told you that the scenes when Anakin wakes up in bed from Episodes Two and Three have turned me on?” Hayden smiled with amusement. It was the night to remember.
Chapter 4 Love beyond time and space
The next morning, Danny and Hayden were hanging out in the cafe having breakfast with the others, chatting and humouring among themselves.
Once they were finished, Danny said that he’ll catch up to them as he spent some time with Hayden for the last time.
“You know Hayden, I never thought that Red never looked so beautiful” said Danny. “So are you” said Hayden. Both men were grinning with the pun and compliment. “So, what’s next for you?” Hayden asked, taking a sip of his tea. “We have a few more shows next in store and some new music in the works. It’s all part of what I love doing best” answered Danny. “Very good, it’s nice to be dedicated to your work as much as I am” said Hayden. “But what about you? Will you be back in the States?” asked Danny. “Not yet, I’ll probably stay here a little while longer and see where the wind takes me but hey, I’m up for hanging out some more” replied Hayden hopefully. Danny smiled and said “Yeah, I’d like that. A lot” as they stood up and embraced each other; exchanging a quick kiss.
Since then, Danny and Hayden have stayed in touch, with longer, personal conservations with clear communication that made their open relationship work and some counselling whenever they needed it. This helped to strengthen their bond. What had started as a chance encounter turned into a connection, finding a common ground that reunites the world of music and movie.
The rest of the band was aware of that connection, but they were happy for Danny to have someone in his open polyamorous circle (although Dougie said to him to make sure that he doesn’t turn to the dark side). Outside of that, he and Hayden kept things private from the media, embracing the freedom of their quiet moments together.
For Danny, this was the experience that he’ll never forget even with this connection has enchanted his life, building his perspective in life. During their next show as he stood on stage with the cheering crowd, Danny couldn’t help but look over the audience, knowing that somewhere out there, a certain someone was watching, cheering him on.
And who knows? It could be the start of something special.
