Love, Courage, and Music: Dominic’s met and greet with McBusted

Here's my McBusted fan fiction with the McBusted boys meeting up with a gay fan of theirs Dominic after standing up for him from homophobic bullies. Afterwards, he gets to spend some time with them featuring short interactions with each members of McBusted Dominic is an original character of mine who may pop up in future McBusted stories every now and then. Enjoy! 

Love, Courage, and Music: Dominic’s met and greet with McBusted

It had been a typical afternoon for a handsome guy with long chestnut hair that gives him the looks equivalent to a male model named Dominic as he wandered through his favourite park, headphones on, listening to songs from his favourite bands McFly, Busted and their Super Group McBusted as well as their related solo songs.  The young man was trying to come up with a way to raise funds for his LGBTQ+ community club that he secretly goes to for a charity.

Their music had always helped to keep him going, especially in his toughest moments when the world is seemingly against him in regards to his sexuality including with the constant bullying he received and getting fired from jobs just because he’s gay.

Although he does have a few friends and close to his parents, he is afraid of coming out to them in case he gets rejected which is sadly happens too often as he is aware from the others from the LGBTQ+ community club. 

This makes his love for McFly and Busted music the only thing he has which has helped him to realise his sexuality, inspired by their music, passion and good looks (especially Danny Jones who is his crush). He wished for a world where everyone gets along despite their difference and who they love with a brighter future for equality.

Today, however, was anything but typical. The calm was suddenly interrupted by the ugly jeers of a group of homophobic bullies who had been harassing him for weeks.

“Hey, Dominic! Still hiding behind those headphones, Faggot?” said the guy bully. “I bet those those headphones are gay as you are!” said the girl bully.  

They shoved him and threw insults, making him feel like he didn’t belong. Dominic tried to stand tall but no matter how hard he tried, the words hurt a lot which made it harder for him to hold back the tears.  He tried to get away, running as fast as he could, only for him to end up near a cliff with a train track underneath and the train on full speed ahead. He was trapped with nowhere left to run. “This is the end of the line for you Homo” sneer the guy bully. “Sorry to say that you’ll be going to hell!” added the girl bully.

Dominic’s heart raced, but just as the group began to close in, the sound of footsteps running toward them made them scatter. When he looked up, he was stunned to see seven tall, confident guys who were none other than the members of McFly and Busted standing in front of him, who were more than ready to defend him. They are like heroes coming to his rescue.

Danny, the first to step forward, shot them a fierce look. “Got a problem mates? I suggest you run along or deal with us!”

“Yeah, people like you are the reason why others hate themselves!” said Tom.

“Bigots like you have no place in our world!” said James.

“People have the right to allow who they love and how they get to express who they are! It’s their lives!” said Charlie.

“Not like you arseholes; you’re gonna be the fat, bald, unhappily married, wildly mediocre nobodies you’re destined to become!” said Dougie.

“This makes you all the real losers with no love in your heart!” said Matt.

“So back off unless you want to have more trouble!” said Harry.

That made the bullies flee without a word, never dare to bully Dominic again.

 As the dust settled, Dominic stood there, speechless, his heart pounding for a completely different reason now.

“You okay, mate?” Danny asked, his voice full of concern as he reached Dominic’s side.

Dominic, still in shock, nodded. “Yeah… I think so.”

“Good,” Danny smiled warmly, “because no one should have to put up with that.”

“Hey, you’re safe now,” James said, putting a hand on Dominic’s shoulder. “No one’s messing with you while we’re around.”

Dominic couldn’t believe his eyes. Not only had his favourite bands just saved him, but they were here, standing up for him when he needed it most.

Dominic was still in disbelief as the two bands, his idols stood up for him and saved his life. He would never expect to be rescued McFly and Busted, let alone the chance to meet them in person.

“I… I don’t know what to say,” Dominic finally managed. “You guys just—thank you. I’ve been such a huge fan of you all for years.”

Danny smiled which is the kind of smile that swoons Dominic and said “Don't worries, about it. It’s a good thing that we went out for some fresh air, looking for inspiration for a new song but in any case, we’re just glad that you’re okay.”

In the moments that followed the next few days, Dominic found himself hanging out with the two bands, engaging in the kind of conversations he had never dared to imagine.

Danny and Dominic

As mentioned before, McFly and Busted invited Dominic to spend them with them. They were performing a series of shows in the city while working on a new album, and Dominic found himself backstage at one of their rehearsals. He had never felt so welcomed.

Danny is very eager to get to know him more. Times have gone quick as they talked, laughed, and shared stories. Dominic has always admired Danny but now that he gets to spend time with him in person, that admiration has turned something deeper.

 Dominic’s admiration for Danny had always been there, but now, seeing him in person, it turned into something deeper. Danny’s kindness has made Dominic feel safe which along with his handsome looks has made him fall for him. To Dominic, Danny is like a Prince Charming who is beautiful, inside and outside.

One evening after rehearsal, Dominic and Danny sat together outside the venue, watching the sunset. “Dominic, it’ll be good for me to get to know more LGBTQ+ people like you, just like with me and Dougie who has written with Noahfinne who is a Transgender man and Bisexual so is it ok if I ask you something?” asked Danny gently. “That’ll be fine” replied Dominic as he makes eye contact. “You said that you always have been a fan of us yet I can tell that you’ve been through a lot” said Danny gazing at him.

As Dominic was feeling the weight of this moment, he took a deep breath and said “That is true. I’ve always been struggling with who I am with my sexuality is something that I was born with. It can be scary with all the rejection in the world yet your music has helped me to get through the dark times which have been a challenge for my mind which hold me back.”

Danny nodded. “I get that. Just remember that you’re not alone. We find that we do battle with our minds too but it helps to remember that those thoughts don’t have to define you. Sometimes, you gonna have to leave your own head. Anyway, it’s good to hear that our music has helped you a lot. Always remember to be yourself, no matter what anyone says. We gotta let love shine on after all.”

There was a pause, and Dominic decided to break out of his shell. “I always had a crush on you for a long time. But by being here with you, it’s not just a crush anymore. I think I’m falling for you.”

 “You know what? I think I’m falling for you too” and Danny smiled with his heart warmed by Dominic’s honesty.

And just like that, what started as admiration has evolved into love. It was one of the very few times that Dominic was loved for who he was.

Tom and Dominic

As Dominic spent more time with the band, he and Tom quickly bonded over their shared love for all things geeky. One afternoon, they sat in the green room, chatting excitedly about their favourite  video games and movies.

“Alright, Dom,” Tom grinned, “what’s your favourite game of all time?”

“Oh, that’s tough as I have lots,” Dominic said, thinking for a moment. “But I think I’d have to go with Super Smash Bros Ultimate”

Tom’s eyes lit up. “No way! Same! All those all-stars from those iconic Nintendo franchises plus a couple of third-party companies. Everyone is here!”

They spent the next hour discussing everything from all the characters they liked to play as, the modes they enjoyed and the battles they had. For Dominic, it was refreshing to connect with someone who understood his passions so well.

“You ever thought about making your own game one day?” Tom asked, clearly impressed by Dominic’s knowledge.

“Yeah, actually,” Dominic admitted. “I was thinking of an LGBTQ+ based one as I feel that we don’t have as many of them. I want to come up with a fun one that inspires others, letting them know that it’s ok to be different”

“That sounds nice. Well, when you’re ready, hit me up. I’d love to help,” Tom said sincerely. “And never let anyone tell you that your passions aren’t worth pursuing. Only you get to decide what to do with them.” “Thanks, they help to get me going” said Dominic smiling.

Dougie and Dominic

Dougie had learned that Dominic is into magic and has a clever sense of humour including with puns. There was one time when they were riding on a boat, taking a look at nature while humouring themselves.

“So, Dom, what’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?” Dougie asked.

“Oh, there’s a lot but once, I tried to perform a card trick for the school talent show. As I held the cards, I sneezed out of all times which caused the cards to fly everywhere. Picking them up wasn’t that fun” said Dominic blushing from that memory. “Now that's what I call an epic fail” laughed Dougie. Dougie then asked if he knew any jokes. “Why is seven is afraid of nine. Because seven, eight nine!” said Dominic. “Ha! Ha! That one’s a classic.”

Suddenly, Dominic has noticed that they were about to head into a tree branch. “Duck! Duck!” called Dominic. “Where?” said Dougie who misunderstood him and got his head whacked by a tree branch. Once Dougie got round, he said dryly “Very funny pun” and they both laughed.

The two get along like a house on fire whenever they are humouring themselves.

Harry and Dominic 

While Dominic was watching the rehearsals, Harry couldn’t resist a little competitive banter. “Alright, enough sitting around, it’s time for your daily jog on the double?! Bet you can’t beat me in a race around the block!”

Dominic has decided to accept that challenge. As they both went on a jog, Harry was surprised that Dominic was able to keep up with him. “What? How did you?...” said Harry. “Gotta go fast as they say, not that I would want to embarrass you in front of your band mates” said Dominic.

“Oh yeah? Beat if this was a drumming face-off, I’ll give you the run for money!” said Harry though he nevertheless appreciated the cheeky retort for some humour and healthy competition. He tried to outrun Dominic as they made their way to the finishing line towards the backstage entrance. But Dominic, having to work out himself matches his speed. They were so fixated with their competition that they failed to notice who actually got to the finishing line first.

“Well, guess we’re even” said Harry, shaking hands with Dominic. “You were pretty good yourself. I’ve been working out myself” replied Dominic. “Is that so? Then how about a gym session with me, Mush and Matt? Bet I can beat you with that” said Harry. “I would like that” said Dominic (especially with Danny).

Their friendly rivalry inspired them to better themselves though it was for good fun since after all, it’s good to get fit, get happy.

James and Dominic 

James, always the creative one, struck up a conversation about Dominic’s interests. “So I’ve heard from Dougie that you’re into magic? Sounds pretty awesome.”

Dominic nodded. “Yeah, magic is everything. But so is music. I find that music can help you to keep yourself occupied whenever you need some escapism, express your emotions or find something that resonates.”

James smiled warmly. “Yeah, that’s the best thing about music. It connects people, no matter the language.” James then asked “Hey, do you know any magic tricks?” “I do know a feel though I’m an amateur at best. But I’ll show you” said Dominic who got out a coin, attempting to show James the coin trick. But as he placed the coin in his left sleeve, he accidentally dropped the coin onto the floor. “Oops” said Dominic though they both find the funny side of it.

As they continued their conversation, they found that it’s like they had known each other for a long time with it flowing easily like the river. This made Dominic comfortable with opening up about his struggles, his dreams, and his love for magic. In return, James shared stories about songwriting and the story behind their biggest hits.

Matt and Dominic

Matt and Dominic had a heart-to-heart one evening after Dominic opened up about his struggles with fear and self-doubt. Matt, in turn, shared his own journey with addiction and the importance of reaching out for help. Matt’s openness about his past struggles gave him hope that things could get better, and that asking for help was okay.

“The worst part about being gay is that you have laws that defy your existence and people who are not as open, making you feel that you don’t belong here and hating yourself. It’s not like I choose to be gay, it’s something that I was born with” said Dominic with emotion.

“You’ve been through a lot Dominic but what matters is that you’re still standing. That’s something to be proud of,” said Matt reassuringly. It’s what Dominic needed to hear. “Thanks, I know it’s not always easy but I will keep on fighting for a better world for equality.” said Dominic.

“You know man, we all go through rough patches. It’s easy to give in and hide but by talking about it and facing it head on that’s the strongest thing you can do. I say that’s the meaning of life as you show true strength. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with needing help when we need it. Admitting to it doesn’t make you weak; it’ll help you to get stronger too” Said Matt

Dominic listened intently, feeling inspired by Matt’s honesty. “You’re right. I’ve been scared for so long to just be myself and what people think of me. But hearing your story, maybe I could help someone to let them know that it’s ok to be who they are”

Matt smiled, his eyes soft with understanding. “That’s the spirit, Dominic. By being yourself, you’ll inspire others

Dominic nodded, feeling deeply inspired. “I am not perfect, I still have to fight through my addictions but I know I’ll get there” said Matt. “I say it’s all about learning and finding yourself which helps you to do better” said Dominic. “You have the right idea there” said Matt smiling.

Charlie and Dominic 

Finally, Dominic found himself sitting next to Charlie, talking about their paths in life.

“I didn’t have it easy with Busted even with all the success. I was disillusioned with being defined as a pop star which led me to leave Busted. I guess it’s what I needed to find myself so I’ve came back to Busted here to stay, closer than ever” said Charlie. “I guess it’s not how labels define you, it’s what you do that count” said Dominic. “You’re right about that. The journey has made me fulfil my passion. You have that spark Dominic. Don’t ever let anyone take that away from you.” said Charlie appreciating his wisdom.

Charlie then asked “So, what have you planned for your journey?”  “Lately, I want to do something to help raise the funds for this community club I go to; raising awareness and to benefit my community” answered Dominic. Charlie had an idea. “How about a song? You said you like our music so maybe you could follow our example and inspire the world with your creative work. We’ll be more than happy to give you a hand” 

“That sounds like a great idea!” said Dominic. He never thought that he would get to create music with the two bands he loved. And so Charlie gathered the others to help Dominic to come up with an LGBTQ+ based song with each of them exchanging ideas including the lyrics, how should it sound and the direction it should take.

The song they came up with involves using the colours as represented on the Pride flag that reflect what LGBTQ+ individuals go through as suggested by Dominic. They named the song ‘Over the Rainbow’. Danny, Tom, James, Charlie, Dougie and Matt take turns singing each lyric so that they can each have a vocal contribution with Harry drumming each beat. Even Dominic has his turn singing and playing his guitar. The boys were amazed at how he could really sing. Danny and Dominic find themselves sharing the same mic as they sing closer.

“Wow Dominic! I never thought you had it in you!” said Danny with astonishment. “Yeah, singing with you all is a dream come true” said Dominic happily. “Yeah, it feels so good to come up with a song that’ll help people” said Tom. “We should do this kind of songs more often” said James. “I hope it’ll turn out well for you Dominic” said Charlie proudly. 

As the days went on, Dominic grew closer to the band. They had become more than just his heroes—they were his friends, his support, and his inspiration. And most importantly, they made him feel like he truly belonged. This gave Dominic the courage to come out to his friends and family, knowing that he idolized had his back. It happily went well with his loved ones closer to him than ever. The song ‘Over the Rainbow’ was also released which helped to resonate with people by letting them know that it’s ok to be different, making it a success as it became number one and helped to raise funds for the LGBTQ+ community charity. Dominic and the McBusted boys were happy with how it turned out.

 Afterwards, it was time for them to depart but Dominic knew that this day would change his life forever. Not only had he met his idols, but he also became friends with them who are his allies that he needed. No doubt it’ll help him to grow. They do plan to meet again whenever they’re touring or hanging out, especially Danny with the connection that Dominic could only dream of.

“It’s been fun meeting you. We should play Super Smash Bros Ultimate the next time we meet!” said Tom.

“See you over the rainbow just like our song” said Dougie.

“You better keep up. I wouldn’t want you to fall behind!” said Harry.

“Wishing you the best of luck from this point forward” said James.

“Take care of yourself, I’m happy to talk anytime if you need it” said Matt. 

“The world needs more people like you, people who aren’t afraid to express themselves” said Charlie.

Danny was the last to bid him farewell. He hugged him tightly and said “Stay true to yourself, Dominic. You’ve got something special, and I can’t wait to see where it takes you.”

With that, Dominic walked away, filled with new hope, new friends, and a heart ready to face the world, knowing that love, music, and courage would guide him every step of the way.
