Going back to McFly, Busted and McBusted, here's a new story where the boys plus their friend Dominic as a special guest goes head to head in one of the greatest fighting crossover video game Super Smash Bros Ultimate. As a fan of McFly, Busted and McBusted and video games, do expect more stories where they play video games with each other.
Busted Vs McFly: The Ultimate Super Smash Bros Showdown
Two boy bands who are close friends (though not without a friendly rivalry including when it comes to video games) have invited their friend Dominic to their studio, taking a break from touring and writing music for a fun video games night. And the game that they picked was Super Smash Bros Ultimate; the ultimate video game crossover where everyone is here.
Their studio had a room where it has a huge wide-screen TV with video game consoles with a variety of video games to choose from with a massive sectional couch that fit each of the boys, making it a paradise for video game fans and even though the McBusted boys are musicians, they were eager to show their competitive, gaming side.
“A pleasure to be invited” said Dominic who is looking forward to playing Super Smash Bros Ultimate with his idols. “It’s going to be fun with you!” cheered Danny Jones with his bright smile. “I said I’ll invite you. Now I’ll get to see your gaming skills!” said Tom Fletcher as he sat down on the couch with his controller in hand.
“This is it fellas! Tonight is the night where we find who’s the Ultimate Smash Bros Champion once and for all which is going to be me of course!” bragged Harry Judd who is really competitive. “Oh yeah? That’s big talk to someone who’s about to get trashed!” said Matt Willis who was getting heated up.
“You guys might as well hand me the crown now as I’ve been practising” said James Bourne with a confident smirk on his face. “Is that so? We’ll see about that mate” said Dougie Poynter who picked up his own controller. “Sounds like we’re already getting at each other’s throats before the game started” said Charlie who smiled with amusement as he set up the game. “This is fun already” said Dominic who is happy to be part of their banter.
Everyone chose their fighters. Tom went with Nintendo’s beloved mascot Mario, his go-to character as a well-rounder, while Dougie picked Link, ready to dominate with his sword skills. Matt Willis opted for Kirby, eager to use his copy abilities, and Danny Jones selected Shulk, confident in his ability to master the Monado’s power. Charlie chose Fox, excited for some high-speed action, while Harry picked Samus, hoping to crush the competition by making use of the bounty hunter’s long-range attacks and powerful charge shots. James chose Sonic, confident in his ability to master the blue hedgehog’s Speed. He has always been a fan of Sonic The Hedgehog after all. Finally, Dominic picked Lucas; determined to win by mastering his PSI abilities.
The rules include a stock battle with a few items including Final Smash and any stage they want although this time, the stage that they agreed on is the iconic Final Destination, the simplistic but practical stage with no platforms or hazards which allow pure skills which still makes it epic.
The stage was set. The fighters were chosen. It was time for the ultimate Smash Bros showdown.“Let’s do this!” Tom shouted as the match began, starting with Mario firing a barrage of fireballs.The match was already filled with excitement as the characters clashed and each of the boys utilitising their moves in the best way possible.
Danny was making use of Shulk’s Monado arts to adapt to different situations while countering his opponent’s moves using Vision. Matt uses Kirby’s floating abilities to make sure he doesn’t fall off the stage while Dougie alternatives with Link’s smash attacks with his Master Sword, Boomerang and Bomb to keep his opponents from guessing.
Charlie uses Fox’s darting speed to dodge attacks while looking for an opening to land his powerful smash moves (as said by Charlie to wind up his opponents “You should have done a barrel roll!”). Harry’s strategy with Samus involves staying on the edge of the stage and charging up the Charge Shot, firing it towards his opponents. Dominic is a smart fighter who uses Lucas’ PSI Magnet to absorb incoming projectiles including the Charge Shot.
James however was playing it cool like Sonic himself. He kept his distance from the others and uses his Spin Dash as a sucker punch as shown when Charlie’s Fox and Dominic’s Lucas, send them flying off the stage.
“First blood!” James cheered, a satisfied grin on his face as he scored his first double knockout. “Wow there” said Dominic with astonishment who didn’t see that coming. “Lucky shot,” Charlie grumbled, though he couldn’t help but smile.
Items have been appearing on stage at random including a Smart Bomb. Danny was the first to pick up the Smart Bomb, using Shulk to toss it towards Tom’s Mario and James’ Sonic which exploded on them, sending them flying off the stage. “Oh yeah, that was a blast!” cheered Danny just before Shulk got caught in the blast and got koed himself. “Now that's what I call an epic fail” said James dryly yet slyly. “You really got to concentrate there Danny!” said Tom as they couldn’t help but to laugh.
Harry has just knocked out Matt as Kirby using Samus’ Charge Shot. “Ha! That what I call a bull’s eye!” bragged Harry. “I’ll get you for this!” said Matt as soon as Kirby respawned. Matt had an idea. He used Kirby to snuck up to Samus, sucking her in using Inhale and spitting her out, copying her Charge Beam attack while wearing her helmet. As Matt’s Kirby was charging the attack, Harry said to him “And what do you hope to accomplish by imitating one of my character’s moves? Surly you cannot replicate my super special awesome tactic of...” but this made Samus open to the Charge Beam, sending her off the stage. “What were you saying?” asked Matt while Harry pulled a face.
Dougie has spotted a Hammer. “It’s hammer time!” said Dougie as Link grabbed the Hammer and bashed his opponents with it with high damage, causing them to be sent flying. “Hey watch it!” cried Charlie as Fox got KOed by the hammer. “What the hell?!” cried Matt as Kirby got sent into the air. “Sorry, you can’t stop me now!” said Dougie as if he was going hyper but he wasn’t watching where he was going and Link fell off the edge while using the hammer. “Better keep Dougie away from hammers” said Tom jokingly.
A Smash Ball has appeared. “It’s mine!” said Danny as he quickly moved Shulk towards it. “I saw it first!” said James who hurriedly moved Sonic at the direction of the Smash Ball. “I’ll be the one to get it!” said Harry, trying to break it with Samus. Dominic has also spotted it and uses Lucas’ PK Freeze, aiming his attack towards it. Not only he freeze the characters who were near the Smash Ball but he broke the Smash Ball, activating Lucas’ Final Smash; PK Starstorm. “And now, prepare for the apocalypse!” said Dominic in an exaggerated manner with Lucas KOing Shulk, Sonic and Samus. “Now I’ll be seeing the stars” said Danny humouring him which made Dominic smile.
The battle raged on with collateral damage that caused the players to be out of the match. Tom’s Mario managed to take down Dominic’s Lucas with a well-timed Super Jump Punch, but then he fell victim to Dougie’s relentless assaults with Link’s Spin Attack. He also got Charlie’s Fox when he tried to sneak up on him using Fox Illusion. “What does the Fox say?” asked Dougie cheekily. “Oh shut up” muttered Charlie though he admired Dougie's quirky sense of humour.
Harry’s Samus was dominating the stage with her ranged attacks, but Dominic’s Lucas dodged the Charge Beam and sent her flying with a well-timed up-smash attack.
Danny’s Shulk picked up a Pokeball. “Ah yes, just like our Pokémon tour” said Danny, smiling back at the memories of the tour. It sent out a Tapu Koko which unleashed its Discharge, blocking James’ Sonic who tried to use a spin dash to get back onto the stage when he was sent off earlier, causing Sonic to get KOed.
Dominic has found an Assist Trophy. His Lucas picked it up which summoned Black Knight from the Fire Emblem series. He walked slowly and then unexpectedly attacked any nearby opponents with his huge sword Aldonite including Dougie’s Link and he nearly got Matt’s Kirby who used Inhale on Lucas, intending to copy his attack but because he was running away from Black Knight, he accidentally walked off the stage, taking Dominic’s Lucas with him. “Uh, did you mean to use Kirbycide even if it cost you?” asked Dominic. “I swear to God, I was trying to get away from Black Knight!” cried Matt.
Eventually, it came down to just two fighters; Danny’s Shulk and James’ Sonic. “Alright James, it’s time to settle the score!” said Danny who was getting pumped up for this. “Let’s see if I can earn my win after losing to you in the Pokémon battle!” said James who is determined to win. “Go Danny, win this for Team McFly!” cheered Dougie. “Give us a win for Team Busted James!” cheered Matt.
The final battle was intense, with neither side backing down. Sonic was fast, dodging Shulk and hitting him fast and hard using Homing Attack and Spin Dash. This made Danny nervous as he frantically moved his fingers on the controllers, trying to keep up his Sonic’s speed. “Gotta go fast!” taunted James.
But Danny remained composed and his raw strength and Monado Arts (including Speed, Shield and Smash) to keep up with James. He waited until Sonic got nearer to strike him with a powerful Backslash and Vision. “I’m really feeling it!” boasted Danny, quoting Shulk as Sonic was sent flying towards the edge after being countered by Vision, taking heavy damage.
But James quickly makes it back on stage using Sonic’s Spin Dash. Danny moved Shulk towards Sonic, attempting to stop him from recovering but as soon as Sonic landed on the stage, James used Sonic’s Forward Smash Wind-Up Punch, dealing heavy damage on Shulk who was smacked into it, causing him to be sent off flying and got KOed.
The screen flashed “Game!” in bold letters and James jumped up from the couch, pumping his fist in the air with triumph. It was followed by cheers and groans.
“Yes! I did it!” James shouted with a massive grin on his face. “It’s a win for Busted!” cheered Charlie as he and Matt were the first ones to congratulate him, high-fiving and hugging him. Although Danny would have wanted to win, he couldn’t help but to be happy for him and to be thrilled throughout. “Well done James, you’ve earned it. It was a hectic battle but in a good way” said Danny, showing good sportsmanship. “Thanks Danny, you were a worthy opponent” replied James who was happy to win but was proud of Danny for making it this far as they both shook hands and looking at each other in the eyes. The rest gave their congrats to James for his hard-fought victory.
“That was a fun battle throughout. I’m happy to play with you all, something of which I don’t often get a chance to do so myself” said Dominic smiling with joy. “Yeah, regardless of the outcome, it’s fun times like these have helped to remind me why we’ve stayed so close all these years. It’s not just about the music or the fame, it’s about the friendships we’ve built along the way” said Tom happily.
“You’re right about that. To McFly, to Busted and I look forward to many more game sessions like this” said Matt. The others agreed to that with the warmth of their bond evident in the room and the smiles all around.
Even with their competitive spirit, there were no hard feelings even as friendly rivals as they enjoyed each other’s company with a strong friendship. It wasn’t just about who won or lost it was about having fun which brought them all together as said by a certain Nintendo chief executive officer Satoru Iwata “Above all, video games are meant to just be one thing: Fun for everyone.” And that was a victory they all could share.
