Here's my latest story once again starring two of my favourite UK Boy Bands McFly and Busted in their supergroup McBusted with my favourite original Youtubers Dan Howell/Danisnotonfire, Phil Lester/AmazingPhil, Joe Sugg/ThatcherJoe and Caspar Lee. I've always been watching their Youtube videos and I thought I'll come up with a story where the Phan and Jaspar duos get together for a collaboration but also with McBusted, combining Britan's greatest icons together. Hope you'll enjoy it and who knows, maybe they'll get together someday.
Phan, Jaspar and McBusted; The Ultimate Collaboration
It all got started when two best friends who happened to be among the best-loved YouTubers Dan Howell and Phil Lester met up with two other Youtuber vloggers who are just as beloved Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee at a YouTube convention.
The four YouTubers begin their collaboration, starting with Dan and Phil giving Joe and Caspar a variety of seven-second challenges including juggling stress balls and coming up with a rap about their job. Caspar finds that he is surprisingly well coordinated and focused with juggling each stress ball within the time limit. Joe wasn’t so lucky who couldn’t keep up and dropped all the balls onto the floor. “I can last a second longer than you!” said Phil. “Oh yeah? That was just a warm-up!” claimed Joe.
Joe had better luck, coming up with a rap about his former job as Roof Thatcher. “Yo, I used to thatch roofs with straws, reefs and all you need to live under the house!” said Joe. “Now that wasn’t half bad,” said Dan with amazement. Caspar however struggled to come up with one under a short time limit “Hey, I er, provide investments and erm...erm...” said Caspar awkwardly and seven seconds were up. “Under pressure were you?” said Joe teasing him. “Was it to ya?!” cried Caspar.
Afterwards, it was Joe and Caspar’s turn to give Dan and Phil a challenge. They have to swap places with them for the day, pretending that Dan is Joe and Phil is Caspar while hanging out with their partners Diana Buswell and Amber Driscoll and vlogging the whole experience. “Do we have to pretend that Phil and I are their partners?” said Dan awkwardly. “Don’t worry, it’s a way of combining our prank and impression videos” said Joe gently.
And so Dan went ahead putting on his best Joe Sugg impression while wearing the matching clothes and wig. He was in Joe’s kitchen with Diana and said while filming “Hello, this is Joe Sugg your daily vlogger and today, we’ll be relaunching our In the Pan with Joe and Diana channel, showing you how to make sausage rolls!” “Why Joe, your accent sounds deeper than usual? Is your throat dry?” asked Diana. “Oh no my dear, I can assure you that it’s the real me, not some imposter doing some stupid chall...er I mean to start with our sausage rolls, we’ll be needing a puff pastry” said Dan who hastily got out some puff pastry.
But Diana was suspecting something. “Joe, I smell a rat. You’re....not the real Joe are you?” asked Diana with suspicion. “What makes you say that my dear? I am the real Joe as I can be. Anyway, let’s roll out our puff pastry” replied Dan but as he leaned down to reach the rolling pin, his wig fell off. The real Joe Sugg turned up and said “Ha! Ha! You barely lasted a minute pretending to be me!” “I knew that there was something fishy!” said Diana though she smiled with amusement. “So, how well did I give my impression of you?” asked Dan dryly. “You weren’t half bad...except that I am not a daily vlogger!” said Joe.
Meanwhile, Phil is pretending to be Caspar Lee, wearing the same clothes and his and a wig that is similar to Caspar's. He has to interview with Amber. “Hello Amber, this is me Caspar, the guy who is well known for saying ‘Make today count’ and making friends with many famous people including Chris Pratt, Ed Sheeran and The Queen” said Phil. “Er, I already know all of this stuff plus your voice sounds deeper than usual” said Amber, giving him a sceptical look.
“Um, please excuse me as I have a sore throat. But that’s not stopping me from relaunching my channel. I’m asking you what you think I should do to celebrate the rebirth of my channel. Should I do the sexy end-screen dance at the end of the video or should I ask fans to draw naked pictures of me?” asked Phil. “That’s nice and all but where did you get these ideas from? It’s certainly not like you” said Amber with suspicion.
Phil decided to change the subject fast. “Actually, this is meant to be an interview with you. I er...want to know what do you do for a living?” asked Phil. “Surely you must know that I’m a founder of Bamby Collective by now? Or maybe you’re an imposter!” said Amber who took off his wig. The real Caspar Lee turned up with Phil casually asking “So Caspar, what did you think of my impression of you?” “You were lousy! You blew it!” said Caspar, much to Amber’s amusement. “Well maybe we should have rehearsed it better” replied Phil.
The next part of their collaboration idea was for Dan and Phil to get into an icy cold bath as part of Caspar’s Brain Freeze challenge with Joe and Caspar asking them all sorts of questions like would they relaunch their radio show, how they discovered their sexuality, if they would like to expand their crafting channel and how they choose the games they want to play for their gaming channel. However, the water was so cold for Dan and Phil that they demanded to get out of the bath, barely lasting a minute.
Afterwards, Dan and Phil asked Joe and Caspar about the times when they were a fail and what made them a weird kid. “Oh my, I remembered when I took part in Celebrity Bake Off, I accidentally cut my thumb while peeling an apple. I was so squeamish with the sight of blood that I passed out on the floor. But hey, that didn’t stop me from winning Star Baker yet my victory is overshadowed by that very incident” answered Joe who was embarrassed by that memory. “I guess this shows that even winners can be fails,” said Dan dryly.
“Ooo, there are lots of times when I was a weird kid with all the crazy antics though here’s one that comes up in my head; when my sister Theo and I ordered a pizza from Debonairs without asking my parents” said Caspar. “No way! That is so daring of you both!” said Phil in shock. “I know, my Dad wasn’t happy about that so he sent the pizza guy away, leaving us to starve but luckily, my Mother took us out for pizza” said Caspar. “All that for your love for pizza huh? But hey, you have a nice Mother” said Phil. “Why thanks, she has written about that for my book” said Caspar.
Afterwards, they decided to go out for pizza for a break as suggested by Caspar (with Dan saying “I bet you coming up with that childhood pizza incident has hinted to us that you wanted pizza”). While they were having pizza, they were discussing on what they could do next. They felt that something was missing. “It feels like we need to do something even bigger to round off our collaboration,” said Caspar. “I agree, something that will set off our collaboration with a bang,” said Joe.
Dan just remembered something. “Hey, did I tell you that Phil and I will be seeing a McBusted show in a few day's time?” asked Dan. “The fusion of boy bands McFly and Busted. Dan and I are still hooked on their classics including Star Girl and Obviously from McFly, Air Hostess and The Year 3000 from Busted, the latter of which was an anthem for those who grew up in the 2000” added Phil. “Oh yeah, I know these guys. I used to cover All About You for Comic Relief. Funny you should mention it but Diana and I will be seeing them too” said Joe. “Hey, I’ve just got tickets for Amber and I to see them. What a coincidence!” said Caspar.
They then had a thought. “You know, we should get them to be in our video!” said Phil. “That sounds like an awesome idea! I always wanted the McFly and Busted guys to be in my video!” said Caspar excitedly. “There’s no doubt that it’ll make our collaboration awesome!” said Joe. Dan was eager with the idea though he wasn’t too sure how it’d be possible. “That's all great but how can we get them to be in our video? It’s not like we can ask them” said Dan.
Just then, they were approached by a young man named Dominic who happened to overhear their conversation. “Pardon me but did you guys say you wanted to have the McBusted Boys to be in your video?” asked Dominic. “Are you the guy who made the song ‘Over the Rainbow’ with them?” asked Phil. “That song of yours was a hit for us gays, for which I thank you,” said Dan. “Yep, that’s me but I am a close friend of The McBusted Boys and I can help to arrange a collaboration with them” said Dominic. “Really? That’ll be great!” said Caspar gratefully. “Oh, I happened to be a fan of your videos too,” said Dominic. “For our gratitude, you can have our autographs,” said Joe jokingly while showing his appreciation. This made Dominic blush.
Chapter 3: Ultimate
collaboration with McBusted
It was arranged for Dan, Phil, Joe and Caspar to meet up with the boys from Busted and McFly after their McBusted show. The four YouTubers along with Diana and Amber had enjoyed their show, listening to their favourite classics including All About You, Obviously, Year 3000 and Air Hostess, filming parts of the show throughout although they were saving most of their film for when they meet up with them.
After the show, Dan, Phil, Joe and Caspar were led backstage where Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher, James Bourne, Charlie Simpson, Dougie Poynter, Matt Willis and Harry Judd were chilling out after their exciting show. The YouTubers were star-struck as they were greeted by the McBusted boys with wide smiles.
“Why Hi there! Are you guys the YouTube Lads that Dominic has told us about? I didn’t think we would have YouTube royalty coming all this way to see us!” said Danny jokingly as he shook their hands. “We happened to be huge fans of you guys!” said Dan who was blushing as he was trying to keep his cool. “We’ve been listening to both of your songs since our childhood!” added Joe who couldn’t contain his excitement. “Why thanks! We happened to be fans of your videos too!” said Tom grinning.
“Really? Well I’m flattered!” said Phil trying to sound modest. “We have been making a collaboration video together and we were wondering if you guys could be in our video?” asked Caspar. The McBusted boys were eager with the idea. “Of course, anything for our fans,” said James. “Yeah, let’s do it!” said Matt.
But first, they have to draw a cat whisker and noise as suggested by Dan and Phil just like for their collaboration videos. “So I guess that I am a cat now,” said Tom. “I always wanted to have one of these!” said Caspar excitedly. Danny meowed like a cat with Dougie giving his hair a stroke.
And so they were all having a field day filming with fun and games that they came up with including a YouTubers vs. McBusted challenge which involved Amber singing a random McFly and Busted song lyric and everyone had to guess within seven seconds. It wasn’t easy with Danny getting them mixed up having to think for a limited amount of them which caused the others to laugh while Phil surprisingly got all of them right. “Wow, you must be the Ultimate McBusted fanboy!” said Dougie. “I say he is just lucky,” said Dan slyly. “Mate, weren’t you the one who got Party Girl mixed up as a Busted song? I’m offended that you got us mixed up with that song!” said Charlie jokingly.
There was also one time when Diana danced with Tom and Harry with Danny and Charlie singing It’s All Coming Back To Me Now and Before You Go (just like when they were at the Masked Singer) and everyone had to vote for who would be the best dance partner for her. Joe was jokingly jealous of them, especially of Harry who was the one who won Strictly Comes Dancing.
They then had a Bush Tucker trial with Caspar competing with Danny, Dougie and Matt to eat some spicy pizzas. The others were chanting for them as each of them taking a bite out of the spicy toppings including Pepperoni, Spicy Chicken and Spicy Green Chillies although their mouths were on fire when they had Jalapeños.
Next, they set up a Busted Vs McFly challenge with Joe singing a famous song in their impression of a fictional character with Dan, Phil, Caspar and The McFly and The Busted boys have to guess what the song is and who they are voicing as. “Hey! It’s Mickey Mouse singing Lady Gaga!” said Harry. “No it’s Jar Jar Binks singing Michael Jackson!” said James.
Dan and Phil then sang the song that they came up with for their This Tour is Not on Fire; The Internet is Here. The McBusted boys were amazed at their talent. “Oh wow! Both of you have it in you as singers!” said Tom with astonishment. “I should get you both a record deal!” said James jokingly while showing his appreciation in his own quirky way.
Dan, Phil, Joe and Caspar then chatted with the McBusted boys to get to know them more. “So how do you guys stay together for both of your bands and as a supergroup?” asked Phil. “It’s not always easy with our ups and downs but as long as we get along with each other and stick with our passions, then McFly is forever” answered Tom. “We sometimes have our creative differences like I have but sometimes, some space is ok which does bring us closer” said Charlie. “I hear you, it’s how you Busted boys got back together after all” said Tom agreeing with him. “Pigs can fly as they say,” said James.
Each of the boys even finds themselves that they are open to some of their issues starting with Caspar with his Tourette Syndrome. “I find that I can set off tics at any moment since childhood. It can be frustrating at times but I have been learning to deal with it” said Caspar with honesty. “It’s good of you to acknowledge and live with your condition. I have messed up myself with my addiction, getting myself into rehab twice. But I’m becoming sober and learning to become a better person while understanding addiction and other people who are going through the same” said Matt. “That’s good to hear of you and I hope you’ll continue to do well” said Caspar sincerely. Matt thanked him.
Joe then said that he does have some anxiety issues at times. “So do I mate, ever since I had a panic attack during live TV. I also have to go through the burdens of my Father divorcing my Mother, leaving me to look after my family during the early days of McFly” said Danny. “Ooo, that must have been unpleasant and hard on you but it’s brave of you to share it with us” said Joe genuinely. “Thanks, I still have a lot of healing to do but I know I’ll get there” said Danny with appreciation. “Most of us have experienced anxiety too so you’re not alone though I find that fitness does help. After all, it’s good to get fit, get happy” said Harry. “You’re right about that,” said Joe. Danny nodded at him.
Dan and Phil also shared the time when they discovered their sexuality with Dan bravely admitting that he had gone through bullying, self-loathing and attempted suicide. “It was a dark time but since then, I have learned to love and accept myself for who I am” said Dan. It was a shock for the others to hear but they all expressed their support for him with Phil holding onto Dan’s shoulder. “It must have been hard for you but I’m glad that you have the courage to be true to yourself,” said James gently. “I understand that many LGBTQ+ individuals have gone through similar experiences. We should help them to feel love and love themselves so no one has to go through this just for who they love and what they identify themselves as” said Danny earnestly. “It’s how it should be,” said Dan thanking them.
“I have gone through a lot of mess myself with my breakup, addiction and rehab. I nearly took my own life once” said Dougie. “I know what it’s like to go through darkness but I know that you have become stronger since then. After all, you will get through the night” said Dan sympathising with Dougie. They all find that sharing their honesty and what they have gone through has made them all closer.
After being open with each other, they all decided to end their vlog on a happier note with McBusted playing Air Guitar while Joe and Caspar dancing with Diana and Amber and Dan and Phil showing their goofy break dance, pretending to bump into objects or others, making it chaotic and fun.
Having enough content for their collaboration video, they all bid their farewell to each other. “Thank you all for being in our vlog!” said Caspar. “It was great talking with all of you,” said Phil. “It’s our pleasure to be in your video,” said Tom. “We’re looking forward to seeing them” said Charlie.
Chapter 4: The day
of the upload
After gathering all of the footage and wrapping up with the edits, it was time to launch their ultimate collaboration, uploading their videos to each of their channels, starting with the challenges that they set for each other (which includes The Seven Second challenge on Dan’s channel, Why Joe and Caspar are a fail and are weird on Phil’s channel, Dan and Phil impersonating as Joe and Caspar on Joe’s channel and Dan and Phil on the iced bath on Caspar’s channel).
Within seconds of their videos being dropped on their channels, fans loved watching their favourite Youtubers collaborating together, combining their humour and style along with references to their past videos which brought back memories and nostalgia for their fans. The videos were also flooded with comments saying that they enjoyed their collaboration and how they go well together.
Each of their videos has gained millions of views, likes and shares with hashtags on social media including #YouTubeSquad and #PhanandJaspar were trending worldwide. The four friends were amazed with the positive reception and how they were trending immediately. But that was just merely the beginning with the boys hinting that there’s something bigger that they’ll upload to follow on the hype train, leaving fans hooked on what it could be.
It wasn’t long until they uploaded their videos with McBusted with Dan’s video titled “We Met McBusted and Made a Video Together?!” Each of the videos showed their concert footage, behind the scenes, the fun challenges they have and their interview.
Fans were elated to see their favourite Youtubers with the most beloved super-group, enjoying their fun antics and concert experience but also resonating and inspired with the heavy-handled topics that they shared (helping them to be more open about themselves too), gathering their fanbases together as their worlds were brought together. The videos has gained millions of views and rapidly gone viral.
“This is the crossover I never knew I needed!” said Hayden Christensen who is among those who have seen the McBusted videos. “There’s something about McBusted, Phan and Jaspar that goes well together” said Dominic who shared those videos on his social media which helped those videos to become even trendier. Other comments include “Phan + Jaspar + McBusted = ICONIC”, “I love how they are all goofy yet so genially open together. I need more of this!”, “I’ve watched this five times already and it’s barely a day old” and “My boys are together in one video, I can’t get over this!”
Dan, Phil, Joe and Caspar couldn’t believe the overwhelming response and massive success of their collaboration videos and their McBusted videos, combining worlds of Youtubers and Pop Punks that fans couldn’t get enough of.
It reminded them of the magic that is the result of bringing friends together for a fun project with the success that’ll lead them to exciting more possibilities including possible future collaborations and projects as well as their love for creating content that helps to entertain and inspire viewers.
They also stayed in touch with the McBusted who congratulated them on the success of their collaboration. “It was great for us to be in your videos so thanks for that!” said Harry. “We should get together for another collaboration yes?” asked Matt. Dan, Phil, Joe and Caspar were intrigued with that possibility in the near future.
In any case, they knew that there was no limit on what they could create as long as they had each other as content creators and as close friends.
